St Aloysius Catholic College is located in Kingborough, south of Hobart, Tasmania.
Our Junior Campus is located in Kingston Beach on the original sight of St Aloysius Primary School, founded in 1960 by the Sisters of Charity.
The campus has beautiful views of Kingston Beach and the Derwent River and falls under the watchful gaze of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. We make use of our seaside location with regular visits to nearby Boronia Beach and the surrounding coastal reserve.
The Junior Campus consists of a mixture of modern and restored historic buildings, including the original school house from the 1960s. It is made up of 3 main learning centres and a modern multi purpose hall. It has basketball and netball courts, outdoor play spaces, an oval and an outdoor classroom: a sand circle used for Aboriginal education. One of the most special features of our Junior Campus is its close proximity to our parish.
The Sisters of Charity completed their stewardship of the school in 2001 and the first lay Principal was appointed in 2002 however our ties with our parish are as strong as ever.
In 2007 the new name of St Aloysius Catholic College was adopted in anticipation of the establishment of our new Middle Campus at Huntingfield, a need that was seen to meet the educational capacity of the region.
In 2009 our Year 6 classes relocated to the newly built Huntingfield Campus and joined our first cohort of Year 7s. 2010 saw the completion of our Middle School with Year 5-8 now on site. Year 9 was introduced in 2011 and Year 10 in 2012.
Our Middle Campus has grown over the last 15 years and now houses 450 students in Year 5-8. The facilities on campus include a chapel, an industrial kitchen, a ceramics studio, an arts and photography studio, drama room including performance stage, 2 science labs, a full size indoor basketball court/ multi-purpose gymnasium, a gym, music studios, an MDT workshop, a library,a café, a full size football field, soccer pitch, basketball court and netball court.
In 2023 our first Year 11 cohort joined us at Middle Campus.
The Middle and Senior Campuses are located on the fringe of Peter Murrell Reserve and Coffee Creek, a popular bushland destination full of walking, running and mountain biking tracks. This area is regularly used by our HPE, Outdoor Education and science classes, our run club and to get back to country.
In 2024 we will celebrate our first Year 12 graduates in the history of the College and open our new Senior Campus that houses Year 9-12 students.
2024 is an exciting year for us at St Aloysius Catholic College, not only do we welcome our new Principal Mr Paul Reidy and open our new Senior Campus in Huntingfield, but we become the only K-12 co-educational Catholic College in Tasmania.
Our new Senior Campus will house 300 students in Year 9-12 in 2024.
The facilities are not only brand new but designed specifically for young adult learners and a 21st century education. The campus boasts 7 purpose built practical classrooms for sciences and arts, general classrooms, an exam hall, a gallery, a library, study pods, VET facilities, a gym, a café, a Year 11/12 Common room, a sacred room, a central gathering space and stunning grounds boasting outdoor learning and performance spaces and a full size undercover basketball court. The campus is heated via geothermal energy making it comfortable for learning.
